Sexagenarian dentist foils robbery in Ecija clinic
CABIAO, Nueva Ecija – A robbery holdup in broad daylight here was foiled by a 64-year-old dentist, who overpowered a lone suspect after the latter poked a knife at his secretary here on Monday.
Police head Major Gerald Fernandez said the robbery attempt was reported to them by Barangay Captain Dennis Pongco, who told them a male suspect, 35, of Barangay Sto. Niño, Gapan City, was caught while trying to rob the victim’s dental clinic in Bgy. San Roque here at 12:30 p.m., March 20, 2023.
Investigation showed the suspect entered the clinic and then poked a knife at the clinic secretary and announced a holdup.
Seeing this, the dentist grappled with the knife-wielding suspect until the latter was overpowered.
Fernandez said the suspect tried to escape but was caught by bystanders outside.
He said the arrested suspect also yielded a plastic sachet of shabu.
Charges for attempted robbery and violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) are being readied for filing against the suspect.
