SENATE HONORS ESTRADAS
THE Senate adopted Resolution Nos. 1295 and 1296 recognizing former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada and former Senator Luisa “Dra. Loi” Ejercito Estrada for their contributions to public service and the welfare of Filipinos.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada, son of the former president and senator, described the tribute as a deeply humbling moment for his family.
“It is an honor beyond words—one that my family and I will cherish forever,” Estrada said, recalling the values of integrity, dedication, and public service that his parents instilled in him.
Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, also a son of the former president, expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the recognition, saying his father’s legacy continues to be felt in the Senate
Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, together with other senators, joined the Estrada family in marking the occasion. In his speech, Joseph Estrada reflected on his journey from actor to public servant. “I never imagined that a college dropout and former actor would serve in the highest offices of government,” he said, acknowledging the challenges and lessons from his political career.
Senator Grace Poe, daughter of the late Fernando Poe Jr., recalled the friendship between her father and the former president, noting Estrada’s achievements in public service and citing his recognition as one of the “Three Outstanding Senators of the Year”by the Philippine Free Press in 1989.
Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go praised Estrada as a leader who dedicated his life to uplifting the poor.
Senator Nancy Binay highlighted the former senator’s work in government hospitals and public health, saying: “Huwag natin siyang tingnan bilang asawa lang ni Pangulong Erap. Isa siyang doktor, isang lingkod-bayan na may sariling pagkilala at ambag sa bayan.”
Senator Win Gatchalian described Estrada as a leader who remained committed to public service despite facing political challenges.
