Senate building update
SENATE President Francis Chiz Escudero provided updates on the construction and budget of the new Senate building, confirming ongoing efforts to ensure cost efficiency while addressing logistical concerns.
Speaking at a press briefing, Escudero noted that discussions are focused on finalizing expenses and maintaining transparency. He assured that all financial details are accounted for.
“Kung anumang pagbabago, klaro na yung procedure namin bago ang pahintulutan para wala ng further cause of delay,” he said, emphasizing the need for clear guidelines to prevent unnecessary delays.
He also clarified that the total budget includes both past and ongoing allocations, ensuring there are no undisclosed costs.
Some have questioned whether the P31 million cost estimate truly reflects the building’s value. When asked about the design and practicality of the structure, Escudero explained that the four-tower setup may not have been the most cost-effective approach.
“Dahil apat yung tower, may apat na side yung apat na tower para ka gumawa ng apat na building na hiwa-hiwalay. Hindi man practical yan, di na natin pwedeng pag-debatehan at pag-awayan yan dahil nakatayo na yung building,” he explained.
While acknowledging concerns over the cost, he emphasized that the project has already progressed significantly and that the focus should now be on optimizing available resources.
Escudero also revealed that the new Senate complex will include a designated detention facility and expanded parking to accommodate Senate personnel and visitors.
