SENATE President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III yesterday confirmed that the continuation of the Senate hearing into the alleged rampant smuggling of agricultural products in the country has been postponed due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country.

However, Sotto said there’s no need yet for a lockdown in the Senate building in Pasay City.

“So far, there is no need (for a lockdown) but I postponed the hearing tomorrow,” Sotto said.

“Very few personnel in the Senate since Christmas. No reports (of new COIVD-19 cases) so far,” he added.

The Senate committee of the whole was supposed to continue on Wednesday its probe into the alleged “large-scale” smuggling of agricultural products— a matter raised by Sotto in a privilege speech last December.

Also postponed was the hearing of the Senate committee on environment, natural resources, climate change joint with finance, agriculture, food and agrarian reform on two local bills.
