PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. hopes to transform the country’s 42,000 barangays into flourishing communities.

Under Marcos, we see a government that is committed to spread the benefits of the country’s development down to the countryside.

In the view of many, the benefits of development must not be experienced alone by people in urban centers, like Metropolitan Manila (MM).

Of course, we are made to believe that the government promotes self-reliance among communities through backyard farming.

This is being done through the efforts of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) under Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.

In fact, the DILG has launched a campaign to keep the country’s 42,000 barangays or villages “clean and environment-friendly.”

The nationwide campaign aims to make the barangays self-reliant by planting various fruit-bearing trees and vegetables.

Likewise, it encourages residents to etablish backyard fishponds, according to DILG Undersecretary Chito Valmocina.

Of the country’s 42,000 barangays, 25,000 have already their own community gardens. where residents grow vegetables.

Nobody will argue with well-meaning government officials that salvation from poverty is in some corners of the countryside.

Ang kailangan lang ay kunting sipag at sapat na tulong o ayuda ng iba-ibang ahensiya at opisinang gobyerno.
