FirearmsLUCENA CITY — After more than a decade of hiding, Calabarzon region’s most wanted man facing a string of cases was finally caught by the long arm of the law.

Quezon police director Col. Ruben Lacuesta identified the suspect as “Joel,” 64, a resident of Buenavista, Quezon.

According to Lacuesta, the suspect is the leader of the dreaded “Beraña Gang.”

In his report to Calabarzon police director Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas, Lacuesta said the suspect, who went into hiding since 2013, is facing cases of murder, homicide, and illegal possession of firearms.

The arrest was carried out by joint police teams led by Capt. Jojo Pangilinan, commander of the Buenavista Police Station, on the strength of two arrest warrants issued by Judge Jeshiree Dionisio of Calauag Regional Trial Court, Branc 63 for murder and homicide; another warrant issued by Gumaca RTC, Branch 62 Judge Marylou Meneses for illegal possession of firearms and a separate warrant issued by Judge Muchael Vito of Catanauan Regional Trial Court, Branch 96, also for illegal possession of firearms.

The suspect was caught in his hideout in Bgy. Munting Parang, Tagkawayan, Quezon, Pangilinan said in a phone interview.

The official said the murder case was filed against the suspect for allegedly killing “Rudy,” a 49-year-old farmer of Guinayangan, Quezon on January 29, 2024.

The victim, while harvesting coconut fruits, was allegedly shot in the head by the suspect and died on the spot.

The suspect is now detained at the Buenavista lock-up jail pending commitment order from the court.
