CHOCO Mucho has lost open spiker Des Cheng for the rest of the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference due to an ACL injury.

Cheng suffered a right knee injury in the second set of the Flying Titans’ 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 win over Cignal last Thursday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

“After careful review of her MRI results, our doctors have diagnosed that it is an ACL tear that require surgery and rehabilitation,” Choco Mucho said in a statement released late Saturday.

“Management will ensure that Des is given the best possible treatment and medical care in order to get in fighting form,” the club added.

Cheng overcame adversities after she sustained her first ACL injury in an off-season game while playing for La Salle in 2015 that made her miss the entire UAAP Season 78.

The Flying Titans remained hopeful that Cheng will survive this unfortunate chapter in her career. Under coach Dante Alinsunurin, Cheng has been a regular starter for Choco Mucho.

“The team is saddened over this development, but is hopeful for a safe return,” the club said.

Isa Molde, who ably filled the void left by Cheng and finished with 11 points in the Flying Titans’ straight set romp of the HD Spikers, is expected to become one of the team’s starting open spikers along with Sisi Rondina.

Choco Mucho, which locked in a four-way tie with F2 Logistics, PLDT and Chery Tiggo in fourth place at 2-1, will next play newcomer Galeries Towers on Thursday at the Santa Rosa Multipurpose Sports Complex.
