Probe of static electric coops pushed
TIME to get rid of the non-performing electric cooperatives.
This is what lawmakers, led by ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo, wanted to propose as they filed House Resolution 1302.
Tulfo said it is about time for the House of Representatives to conduct an urgent inquiry, in aid of legislation, for the immediate review and possible revocation of the franchises of the non-performing electric cooperatives.
Tulfo said they filed a resolution due to numerous complaints received by their offices regarding the series of brownouts in different parts of the country under electric cooperatives.
Other authors include ACT-CIS party-list Reps. Jocelyn Tulfo, and Edvic Yap; Benguet Rep. Eric Yap and Quezon City Rep. Ralph Tulfo, to which also proposed the consideration of the new entry of new electric cooperatives.
In the resolution, the lawmakers said, “The dismal performance of these electric cooperatives underscores the need to explore alternatives, such as the establishment of new electric cooperatives or other models for the provision of electricity in these areas, to address the long-standing issues that have plagued the residents and businesses.”
The lawmakers insisted that they filed a House Resolution for the immediate review of the franchises of these electric cooperatives that have long been the subject of complaints due to their daily power outages in the areas they serve.
