POLICE Regional Office 5 director Brig. Gen. Westrimundo D. Obinque yesterday assured the public they are selecting the “best and the brightest” applicants in the regional police force.

As part of their effort, they have introduced a state-of-the-art equipment to evaluate the physical strength and capabilities of the would-be police officers.

The official said that the PRO5 Regional Recruitment and Selection Unit have added to their process a BMI machine to monitor the applicant’s body status by correctly measuring his/her weight, height and Body Mass Index.

He added that they have also integrated Radio Frequency Identification of RFID technology into their evaluation process. RFID is a wireless system consisting of two key components: tags and readers.

The reader device is equipped with one or more antennas that emit radio waves, receiving signals back from RFID tags to enhance the Bicol police’s assessment procedures.

To gauge upper body strength and endurance, Obinque said they are already employing the gopher check, which is a specialized tool used in push-up assessments.

During this test, candidates are evaluated based on the maximum number of push-ups they can perform at a controlled rate of one repetition every three seconds.

“The incorporation of these advanced assessment tools underscores our commitment to selecting the most capable and deserving individuals to join the PNP organization. We believe that by embracing technology and modern evaluation methods, we can further elevate the quality of our recruitment process,” Obinque said.
