Police visibility
THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has directed its field units across the country to heighten visibility in areas frequented by the public during the Christmas Season.
These high-traffic areas include shopping malls, public and private markets, churches, plazas and parks, and transport hubs, such as bus/jeepney terminals.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil told police officers and men to conduct regular patrols, deploying more uniformed personnel in these areas.
The PNP, which is civilian in nature but national in scope, is mandated to serve and protect the people, including the ordinary citizens, regardless of the political climate.
Marbil said “our mandate is clear: To ensure public safety under any circumstances,” assuring the public that the PNP is a professional and apolitical organization.
It is public knowledge that criminal elements, like snatchers, pickpockets, holduppers and online scammers are very active during the holidays.
Particularly during the nine-day “Simbang Gabi” or “Misa de Gallo” (Rooster’s Mass) of the Roman Catholic Church.
Marbil directed police units nationwide to increase their operations to ensure public safety and prevent criminal activities.
Thus, let us support the PNP leadership as it is committed to maintain peace and order duriong the long Holiday Season.
It’s a move in the right direction.
