PNP logs 125th COVID-19 death amid dip in cases

THE Philippine National Police Health Service yesterday reported the 125th COVID-19 death in the force since March 2020 amid a significant drop in virus transmissions in the organization.

According to PNP chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, the senior police officer succumbed to COVID-19 and hypertension while undergoing treatment in a hospital last Monday.

“It is with a heavy heart that I express the deepest condolences of the PNP to the orphaned family of the PNP’s 125th COVID-19 fatality,” the top cop said.

The latest COVID-19 fatality was a 54-year old senior officer assigned to a national support unit stationed in Bicol He tested positive for COVID-19 last November 1.

PNP-HS director, Brigadier Gen. Antonino R. Cirujales said that over the past few days, COVID-19 cases in the PNP have fallen down to a single digit compared in the past months.

On Wednesday, only nine new confirmed cases were recorded with 29 new recoveries adding up to 261 active cases.

The PNP tallied 42,047 total confirmed cases, 41,661 of whom have already fully recovered from the disease and now back to fully duty status.

The official said about 91.27 percent or 204,728 of PNP personnel are already fully protected with the required vaccine doses against the the virus while 7.50 percent or 16,833 personnel have received their 1st dose already. With these numbers, only 1.23 percent or 2,751 PNP personnel have yet to receive the vaccines.
