PNP-DEG-led sting nets over P5M shabu, top drug target in Cavite

A PHILIPPINE National Police Drug Enforcement Agency (PNP-DEG)-led anti-narcotics operation in Amadeo, Cavite on Saturday morning resulted in the arrest of a top drug trafficking personality in Calabarzon region and the seizure of over P5 million worth of shabu, a report to PNP chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said.

PNP-DEG director, Brigadier Gen. Narciso D. Domingo said that ‘high-value target’ Joel Alfamsao Saut, a 40-year old resident of 95, Purok 3, Barangay Dagatan, Amadeo, yielded an estimated 765 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ valued at P5.2 million during the buy-bust operation in his residence conducted around 2:40 a.m. Saturday.

Undercover officers from the DEG Special Operations Unit 4-A launched the sting with the support of the Police Regional Office 4-A Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, Regional Special Operations Unit and Regional Intelligence Division under Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. and the Cavite Police Provincial Office and the Amadeo Municipal Police Station under Colonel Christopher Olazo.

Brig. Gen. Domingo said that apart from the huge volume of shabu, the suspect also yielded the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill, a digital weighing scale and an android phone which he used in making contact with the poseur prior to the conduct of the actual operation.

The suspect is now being investigated at the DEG SOU4-A office which is preparing criminal charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against him, said the official.

The confiscated pieces of drug evidence will be turned over to the PNP Regional Forensic Unit 4-A for qualitative and quantitative examination, Brig. Gen. Domingo added.
