THE Philippine National Police Chaplain Service (PNP-CHS) on Friday marked its 31st founding anniversary with a commitment to continue its mission of leading the moral and spiritual transformation of all members of the 228,000-strong police force regardless of their religion.

Headed by Brigadier General Jason D. Ortizo, at present the youngest 1-star police general in the country, the PNP-CHS celebrated its anniversary with the theme ‘Living the Call with Humility, Building Resilience and Sustaining Excellent and Unified Services.’

The theme reflected the CHS’ commitment to fostering integrity and compassion among PNP personnel and their families under Ortizo, the 1st director of the PNP-CHS who was promoted to the star-rank in October 2019. The policeman-priest will retire from the force on January 12, 2030.

Speaking on behalf of PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Lieutenant Gen. Rhodel O. Sermonia emphasized the vital role of the PNP-CHS in facilitating moral and spiritual transformation within the PNP.

“At the core of your mission within the PNP Chaplain Service is the vision of moral and spiritual transformation. By guiding our personnel to be God-centered, service-oriented, and family-based public servants, we not only enhance their personal and professional growth but also contribute to the overall mission of the PNP.

We create a culture of integrity, compassion, and excellence that extends beyond our individual roles and impacts the lives of the communities we serve,” said Lt. Gen. Sermonia.

Under Brig. Gen. Ortizo, the PNP-CHS has stood as a beacon of hope, providing unwavering support to the men and women of the PNP and their families for the past three decades.

The PNP-CHS was created on July 23, 1992 thru a National Police Commission resolution to ensure that all PNP personnel and their dependents receive moral, spiritual, and religious services, irrespective of their religious affiliations.

During the event, plaques of merit were given by Lt. Gen. Sermonia and Ortizo to outstanding PNP-CHS personnel as well as the Lectors and Commentators Ministry (LCM) of St. Joseph Church in Camp Crame, the Imam Council of the Philippines (Pasig Chapter), and the Church Planting Movement Institute of Missions, Inc., for their vital role in supporting the mission of the unit.

Over the past 31 years, the PNP-CHS has continuously supported the holistic well-being of PNP personnel and their families, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie within the organization.

Lt. Gen. Sermonia said the unwavering commitment to service and dedication to fostering moral values of the officers and men of the unit have earned them the respect and admiration of their colleagues and the public alike.

As the PNP’s guiding light of hope and support, the PNP-CHS reaffirmed its commitment to humility and excellence to ensure the well-being of those who serve and uphold the principles of a just and compassionate society.
