Phoenix rises again

PHOENIX Super LPG overwhelmed the NLEX Road Warriors 112-77 in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.

Five players, led by RJ Jazul, scored in double-figures for the Fuel Masters of coach Jamike Jarin.

Jazul finished with 19 points, including 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc, and added four rebounds and four assists in almost 22 minutes of action.

Kenneth Tuffin added 17 points and seven rebounds while Jayjay Alejandro contributed with 16 points, and five rebounds.

Kent Salado had 11 points, eight assists and four rebounds and Jason Perkins chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.

“This is big kasi you’re in the bottom of the standings, you got up and medyo gumanda-ganda tayo mo ngayon unlike before,” said Jarin.

“Pero still, a lot of work still has to be done to get to the playoffs,” he added.

Rookie Enoch Valdez led the Road Warriors’ losing effort with 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field, nine rebounds in 27 minutes of playing for coach Frankie Lim.

Jhan Nermal added 12 points, while Baser Amer, Anthony Semerad and Dominic Fajardo contributed 11 points apiece.

But NLEX’s top gunner, Robert Bolick, was held to only to 11 points on 3-of-13 shooting, seven assists and six rebounds in 34 minutes on the floor.

The Fuel Masters pulled away in the second quarter as they established a commanding 20-point advantage with 3:41 remaining.

The Road Warriors fought back in the third quarter as they cut the deficit to only eight points with 46-54.

The Fuel Masters, however, were not finished yet.

Phoenix unleashed a cripping 9-0 run to regain control with a 17-point advantage, 63-46.

In the fourth quarter, the Fuel Masters established as many as 39-point lead, 110-71, with 1:28 left remaining.

The Fuel Masters outscored the Road Warriors in the final frame, 33-15.
