PBBM commends PH humanitarian team
PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. extended the nation’s gratitude to and admiration for the 89 members of the Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent following their successful humanitarian mission to the quake-stricken Myanmar.
In a Malacañang press briefing, Presidential Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro conveyed the President’s commendation, praising the team’s courage and commitment.
“Nagkaroon po ito ng commendation. Sila po ay pinarangalan dahil sa kanilang napakatapang na pagsagupa sa kanilang obligasyon at tungkulin,” Castro said.
“Kaya po ang lahat ng nanggaling at tumulong sa Myanmar, kayo po ay aming pinasasalamatan. Kapuri-puri po ang inyong mga ginawa,” she added.
The humanitarian deployment is part of the “One ASEAN, One Response” initiative, which underscores the importance of regional solidarity and coordinated disaster response among ASEAN member states.
Following the magnitude 7.7 earthquake which struck Myanmar on March 28, the Philippine team facilitated the delivery of 19,458 pounds (8,844.63 kilograms) of essential humanitarian aid.
The humanitarian aid, which included hygiene kits and tarpaulins donated by the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre), was transported using C-130 aircraft of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The inter-agency contingent included personnel from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Philippine Air Force (PAF), Philippine Army, Department of Health (DOH), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Emergency Response Team, with Energy Development Corp., and Apex Mining Co. from the private sector.
