SCIENCE CITY OF MUŇOZ – Presidential legal counsel chief Sec. Salvador “Sal” Panelo wowed Novo Ecijanos when he graced a massive rice distribution caravan sponsored by the provincial government in this city and gamely carried sacks of rice to the delight of local residents here.

Panelo, who is rumored to be gunning for a Senate seat in the 2022 elections, flew to this city and joined Gov. Aurelio M. Umali, Vice Gov. Emmanuel Antonio M. Umali, Mayor Nestor L. Alvarez, and GP Partylist Rep. Jose Gay Padiernos in the rice distribution caravan for the city’s 37 barangays here on Wednesday.

The top Malacañang official was seen joining the Umali siblings and several provincial and local officials in carrying a 25-kilo sack of rice after it was unloaded from a truck and brought to empty chairs lined up along road shoulders during the rice-giving activity.

Panelo hailed the governor’s initiative in putting up such a huge rice distribution project amounting to P600 million for every Novo Ecijano family across the province especially during this time of crisis and the pandemic.

“Ito ay isang kahanga-hangang hakbangin na isinasagawa ng provincial government of Nueva Ecija sa pangunguna ni Governor Oyie Umali. Parang ngayon lang ako nakakita ng ganitong programa, palagay ko maganda itong huwaran, magiging model ito ng ibat-ibang probinsiya. Can you imagine P600-million worth ng bigas ibibigay sa lahat ng pamilya, aba eh, kumbaga, where in the world, where in the Philippines, only in Nueva Ecija,” stressed Panelo.

It was learned that more than 27,000 households from the city’s 37 barangays benefitted from the provincial government’s rice distribution program where each was given a 25-kilo sack of rice as food aid during the pandemic.
