Palawan man nabbed for illegal transport of pangolin

A 35-YEAR-OLD resident of Taytay, Palawan was arrested on Saturday for illegal wildlife trading, officials said.

Members of the 2nd Special Operations Unit of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group (PNP-MARIG), the Taytay Municipal Police Station and the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) arrested Albert Dayuha in Sitio Mangao, Brgy. Poblacion while transporting a pangolin or balicon, an endangered species weighing around five kilograms and has black market value of P4,000.

The suspect’s tricycle, which the suspect uses to transport wildlife species, was impounded by the Taytay police.

The suspect will be facing charges for wildlife trading and transporting of wildlife under Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

MARIG officers under Lieutenant Colonel Rae Charles Enrile and a law enforcement team from the PCSD led by Rafael Orubia conducted the operation with the aid of the Taytay MPS following a tip from a concerned citizen.
