SENATORS on Monday threw their support behind the leadership of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri as rumors of an ouster plot swirled anew.

It was the second time that coup talks circulated, following the first one in March reportedly due to Zubiri’s stance that Charter change (Cha-cha) is not a Senate priority.

This time, it is reportedly because of the approval of the Maharlika Investment Fund bill.

Zubiri said he will gladly give up his position if there are really sufficient numbers that will show that is no longer the choice to lead them as the Senate chief.

“If they can show the numbers, why not?” Zubiri said in an interview.

According to Zubiri, he is confident that all senators regardless if they are part of the majority or the minority receives fair treatment which he does even during the discussion of issues and important bills.

“Trabaho lang po ako. No more , no less,:” Zubiri said as he stressed that his style of leadership involves all members regardless if that particular senator belongs to the majority or the minority.

In separate statements, senators said they have no plans to unseat Zubiri.

Senator Imee Marcos shrugged off the rumor saying there is no truth to such as she challenged those spreading it to help the Senate instead of creating intrigues among them.

“Dapat tigilan ang mga ganitong tsismis. Napakaraming trabaho ang dapat natin asikasuhin,” Senator Imee said.

She said it is high time that the focus be directed to something worthwhile that will help our country and Filipino people.

Senator Juan Edgardo Angara laughed off the rumors saying this is not possible to happen considering that Zubiri is doing his job well as he cited the recent high ratings of the Senate under Zubiri.

:The rating of the Senate will speak for his kind of leadership,” said Angara as he dismissed the rumors that other senators like Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda and Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva will also be replaced.

For Senator Nancy Binay , these unfounded rumors of changing the Senate leadership should not be entertained since these will not do any good to the upper chamber.

Senator JV Ejercito said there is no truth in the alleged dissatisfaction of senators against Zubiri, insisting that he is doing his job well and has the support of the majority.

“Who will attempt to do such when everyone seem very satisfied with the leadership of Zubiri?” Senator Ejercito asked.

Senator Jinggoy Estrada denied that he is replacing Legarda and maintained that the one behind this rumor is just sowing intrigue to divide them.

Neophyte Senator Robinhood Padilla said he admires Zubiri for his leadership style as he maintained his loyalty to the present leadership. With Philippine News Agency
