A LAWMAKER on Thursday urged the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to uphold its responsibility of providing adequate power supply in order to ensure the quality of operations in health facilities.

This after NGCP warned of possible intermittent power interruptions during the summer.

“We urge the NGCP to make sure that we have adequate power supply all throughout the summer season when demand is at its highest,” Anakalusugan Party-list Representative Ray Reyes said.

“Hospital patients’ lives are on the line, and we need to ensure that the quality of operations in our medical facilities will not be affected,” he added.

Meanwhile, Reyes also underscored the NGCP’s role in the country’s transition to “green energy” and noted that electricity rates are also usually highest during summer due to the high demand for electricity.

According to data from the Department of Energy (DOE), it expects energy demand to reach a high of 13,125 MW.

He called on the NGCP to fast-track its study backlogs on green energy to tap a more stable, cheaper energy supply for consumers.

“NGCP has the power to make it easier for renewable energy technologies to make it into the grid,” Reyes said.

“We need to finish more projects that will ensure sufficient and cheaper energy supply,” he added.
