INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Ano said the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) is finalizing the metrics identifying the areas that may be downgraded to Alert Level 1 to be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte for approval.

Speaking at the sidelines of the EDSA Revolution anniversary rites yesterday, Ano said based on the metrics, the National Capital Region (NCR) is qualified to be downgraded to the much eased restriction Alert Level 1 but apprehensions remain if the region is ready for the major shift.

Fears of placing the country into the most eased restriction still in the government’s mind saying it may again cause another surge of the COVID-19 cases similar to what happened in December last year.

According to Ano, metro mayors however have expressed confidence they are ready for the challenge.

“Ang Metro Manila sa metrics niya papasok siya (Alert Level 1) pero ang tanong diyan is number one handa ba ang Metro Manila which is ang sabi ng mga mayor handa sila,” he pointed out.

Ano added: “Pangalawa, siyempre kailangan ng approval ng Pangulo diyan kasi medyo major shift ito eh from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1. so hindi pa natin talaga finalize.”

The President will announce on Feb. 28 whether to approve the recommended Alert Level 1 deescalation in Metro Manila and in other parts of the country.

“Gagawa ng presentation ngayon Sabado (Feb. 26) at referendum, yung data analytics. Pagkatapos irerecommend natin kay Pangulo kung ano yung mga areas na puwede mag Alert Level 1,’’ he added.
