NCR Covid cases slightly up
A SLIGHT increase in COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has been recorded starting mid-May while infections in other areas decreased, a health official said Tuesday.
In an online media forum, Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire noted that COVID-19 cases in the NCR plus areas and the rest of Luzon also showed a slight increase.
Data from the DOH Covid-19 tracker show that NCR’s average Covid-19 cases for the week of May 5 to 11 is only 431. It went up to 522 cases for the following week – from May 12 to 18 – and went down to 477 cases for the week of May 19 to 25.
“Ngunit, mapapansin na unti-unting bumababa ang mga kasong ito sa plus areas and the rest of Luzon. On the other hand, cases in Visayas and Mindanao were in plateau and remained low,” she said.
The NCR and other island groups have had less than 100 daily cases since early April.
The country remains under low-risk classification for Covid-19 with a positive two-week growth rate from May 25.
The national daily attack rate is less than one case per 100,000 population.
“More than half of the national [hospital] admissions are mild and symptomatic cases. The severe and critical cases are few at 599 or 11.05 percent only, less than 20 percent of the total Covid-19 admissions starting January 2022,” Vergeire said.
The slight increase in COVID-19 cases does not translate to increase in hospital admissions and utilization rates.
The national healthcare utilization rate remains at low risk at 14.67 percent to 17.76 percent in all the regions.
The severe and critical Covid-19 admissions slightly decreased from 679 last May 29 to 599 this week or only 1.6 percent of the total hospital admissions. PNA
