THE City Government of Navotas formally opened its newly renovated sports complex and distributed cash aid to solo parents as part of its 16th cityhood anniversary celebration.

The newly renovated facility features a full-length basketball court, fully air-conditioned dugouts, and a space for a gym.

“The Navotas Sports Complex bore witness to some of our city’s milestone events. Most notably, this place served as our mega swabbing and vaccination center during the peak of the pandemic,” Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

“We have improved the facility to provide a better experience to Navoteños when we hold events here,” he added.

Cong. Toby Tiangco, meanwhile, urged the people to take care of the complex for it to be used for a longer time.

Three of the top players of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), LA Tenorio, Terrence Romeo, and Paul Lee, also graced the occasion as special guests. They encouraged Navoteños, especially the youth, to get into sports and adopt an active lifestyle.

After the blessing, an exhibition game followed between Team JRT, composed of city councilors, and Team DepEd (Department of Education) Navotas, which included Navotas Schools Division Superintendent Meliton Zurbano and teachers from different public schools in Navotas. Team JRT dominated the competition with a one-point lead, 81-80.

Meanwhile, the city government also distributed financial assistance to the third batch of qualified solo parents this year.

Some 200 Navoteños received a P2,000 cash subsidy after verifying their newly-registered and renewed solo parent identification cards.

Mayor Tiangco recognized the hardships and sacrifices of solo parents for their families.

“We hope that through this small amount, we can help you provide the needs of your families. We also urge other solo parents to register and secure their IDs to get their due benefits,” he said.

Solo parents must apply or renew their solo parent identification cards and undergo validation by the City Social Welfare and Development Office to qualify for the solo parent cash aid.
