Do not be choosy. All vaccines are effective and duly authorized by the government. This is the urgent call being made by Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal on all airport workers, as he advised them to grab the opportunity to get vaccinated for their own protection.

His call came amid the continuing mass inoculation of airport frontliners at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4.

GM Monreal said there are about 6,000 workers frontlining at the three premier NAIA terminals on an average day which is why he is so thankful to the national government for initiating the vaccination of airport personnel serving at the frontlines.

These, he said, include guards, LSERV(outside manpower agency) and organic personnel from the MIAA, building attendants and those from the other government agencies like the Office of Transportation Security, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Tourism (DOT), Bureau of Immigration (BI), Bureau of Customs (BOC), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“Highly-appreciated ang effort ng Department of Health that we are now included,” Monreal said, adding the vaccination will boost the confidence of the airport workers as they carry out their daily duties that somehow, they have added protection against the coronavirus. According to GM Monreal, there are 1,500 doses allotted for the airport workers initially and that the mass vaccination is being done on a staggered basis, while strictly following the priority listing provided for by the national government authorities concerned. The first vaccination covered NAIA personnel and those assigned at the One Stop Shop for the Management of Returning Overseas Filipino Workers.

GM Monreal urged the airport workers to get jabbed once their turn comes and not to be too conscious of the vaccine brand they are getting, stressing all vaccines that are given are safe and effective, having undergone the necessary checks by regulatory agencies before they are allowed to be deployed in the country.

Deputy Chief Implementer of the National Action Plan Against COVID-19, Secretary Vince Dizon, said they are mulling the idea of using the NAIA terminal 4 as a vaccination hub for government employees due to the convenience it offers in terms of space.

CHINESE KIDNAPPING FELLOW CHINESE—There is an alarming increase in the number of incidents where Chinese nationals are being rescued from their kidnapers who are their very own compatriots. Two such incidents were reported in the past few days where, fortunately, authorities were able to rescue the victims although the sad part is that the suspects were never brought to justice. The stories behind are all the same. A Chinese national is abducted by a fellow Chinese national for reasons known only to them.

The kidnapped Chinese is tormented and illegally detained, either handcuffed, hogtied or tied to a bed. Photos and videos of him or her are sent to the parents who are in China. The abductors reportedly demand money in exchange for the release of their captives. Some friends from the Chinese community say that usually, the kidnapping is made to force the subject to pay his or debt, usually stemming from bad gambling habits. These illicit activities are being frowned upon by the local Chinese here, saying they are being dragged into the mud by these bold, unscrupulous mainland China men.
