A STILL unidentified gunman shot to death a member of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office of the Calamba local government in Misamis Occidental last Tuesday before fleeing, a Police Regional Office 10 report said.

Darryl Montealto Jr., a 40-year-old resident of Purok Bougainvillea in Poblacion, Sapang Dalaga, suffered gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot following the attack in Purok 1, Bgy. Southtwestern Poblacion which took place about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

An initial report from the Misamis Occidental Police Provincial Office under Colonel Rolindo Suguilon showed that the local police were informed of the shooting incident by a concerned citizen

Responding policemen learned that the victim was rushed by his family to the Calamba District Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment minutes later.

An investigation showed that the victim and his family were attending a birthday party at the house of one Gibson Suminguit prior to the gun attack. He was about to board his vehicle parked outside the birthday celebrator’s house on his way home when he was shot without any provocation by the suspect.

The unidentified gunman fired at the victim thrice hitting him on the head and stomach before boarding a motorcycle being driven by a cohort. The duo fled on board a black Suzuki Raider 150cc motorbike without plate number, witnesses said.

Investigators recovered two spent caliber .45 cartridges at the scene. As of press time, the motive and identities of the killers are still being investigated, said Calamba MPS officer-in-charge Lieutenant Richmond Itcay.
