Marikina eyes zero firecracker injury thru concert, fireworks display

THE Marikina city government will hold its annual free year-end concert and community-based fireworks display on December 30, which aims to ensure a safe New Year celebration and attain zero firecracker-related injuries.

Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro announced that the local government, in collaboration with the Office of Marikina City First District Representative Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro, will conduct the annual free concert at the Marikina Sports Center.

The annual concert, which is the city’s expression of gratitude to residents, is free from admission.

“Sa darating na December 30 ay gaganapin natin ang inaabangan ng lahat na Year-end Concert at Fireworks Display sa Marikina Sports Center,” Mayor Teodoro said.

Mayor Teodoro said the concert will feature performances from local talents, students from various public and private schools in the city, youth organizations, and special guests.

The pre show performances will commence at 4 p.m., showcasing a vibrant lineup of Marikina’s local talents. The program will feature The Silangan Collective, St. Gabriel Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Choir, Marist Youth Chorus, Himig de San Isidro, St. Scholastica’s Academy Glee Club, and Infant Jesus Glee Club.

The concert proper will kick off at 7:20 p.m., headlined by performances from Bassilyo, Sisa, Crispin, Lost Section, Daniel Paringit, and Mauie Francisco.

Adding to the excitement, the grand performances will showcase Toneejay, The Juans, and Maki.

Hosting the year-end concert are the dynamic duo Divine Tetay and Petite, ensuring an evening of entertainment and fun for all.

The mayor pointed out that it has been a tradition in Marikina to hold a yearly free year-end concert as a way of recognizing the contribution of the people of Marikina to the city and welcoming the new year together as a community.

He added that said year-end concert and fireworks display is an annual activity organized by the city government which aims to prevent the incidents of firecracker-related injuries and damage to properties during the New Year revelry.

Meanwhile, the local government of Marikina has already designated firecracker zones such as open spaces and parks.

Aside from the year-end event, the revelers could also visit the Marikina Christmas Shoe Bazaar and Banchetto at the Freedom Park, in front of the City Hall and only a few steps away from the Sports Center.
