Manpower export industry

GIVEN the still rising number of jobless and underemployed Filipinos, we get this feeling that the overseas employment program will remain a major pillar of the economy.

That’s why there is a need to address the numerous problems confronting the dollar-oriented manpower export industry, including the activities of illegal job recruiters.

With a crippled economy brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have to depend on said industry to meet the employment needs of the burgeoning population.

Admittedly, hundreds of thousands of our countrymen, including our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), lost their jobs, worrying concerned government authorities.

Forced to return home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these beleaguered migrant workers, like many of our jobless college graduates in the country, are still looking for jobs.

“Kung maari lang ay sa labas ng bansa nila gustong magtrabaho dahil sa kakarampot na suweldo ng mga manggagawa dito sa bansa,” said the father of a displaced OFW.

“Hindi makapag-aral sa kolehiyo ang kanilang mga anak kung dito lang sila magtrabaho,” according to the father, who also used to work in oil-rich Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

And with Susan “Toots”Ople at the helm of the newly-created Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Filipino workers and their loved ones are assured of a brighter future.

As a daughter of the late Labor Secretary Blas F. Ople, the Cabinet member of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. knows the ins and outs of the overseas employment program.

Ang kailangan lang ni DMW Secretary Toots Ople ay buong suporta ng administrasyong Marcos at ang mamamayang Filipino, lalo na ang mga nagtatrabaho sa labas ng bansa.
