MANILA Indios Bravos rode on another splendid performance of seven-time executive chess champion Dr. Jenny Mayor to roll back Quezon City Simba’s Tribe, 13-8, and Cavite Spartans, 12-9, in the 2022 PCAP-GM Wesley So Cup chess team championships.

Mayor flaunted his deep knowledge of the game to subdue Danilo Ponay of Quezon City and IM Petronio Roca of Cavite in both blitz and rapid matches to power the Indios Bravos to another back-to-back victories in the 24-team, two-division tournament sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Ayala Land and PCWorx.

The strong showing of the Quiapo-based dentist, who also won over GM Rogelio Antonio, Jr., IM Jimmy Liew of Singapore, Fil-Canadian master Butch Villavieja, NM Elias Lao and NM Edmundo Gatus, also helped the Indios Bravos to a fourth-best 17-10 win-loss record in the Northern Division.

Backing up Mayor were GM-candidate Ronald Dableo, who outplayed Freddie Talaboc of Quezon City, 3-0, and Lourecel Ecot of Cavite, 2-1; Jerry Areque, who bested Renie Malupa, 2-0; Mira Mirano , who downed Diana Ramos, 2-1, and Jhulo Goloran, who humbled Paolo Cristobal, 2-1.

Mayor and the rest of the Manila players attributed their success to the support of team manager Atty.Joey Elauria, who passed the bar only last May, and assistant team manager Val Mendoza.
