Las Pinas students stabbed to death over a prank?

THE stabbing incident involving young male students in Las Pinas City happened near the village where I reside.

Many versions were made as to how the incident happened. According to one, the stabbing was triggered by a prank made by two students on a classmate.

The pranksters allegedly turned the lights off when their classmate was inside the comfort room. Irked, the classmate – backed by his companions — waited for the two outside the school to get even.

Armed with knives, the grouped ambushed the pranksters on their way home. As if trained to kill, they first stabbed the leg of one of the pranksters to immobilize him before attacking the other.

The pranksters were finished off with stab wounds on the neck and chest. Authorities has yet to verify this horrifying version of the incident.

Meanwhile, Malacañang denounced the reported increasing cases of bullying, harassment, and violence in schools and online.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered concerned agencies to address the problem after the Department of Education (DepEd) reported a high number of these incidents occurring, according to Castro.

“Ginawan na po talaga agad ng agarang aksyon ito ng pamahalaan sa pamamagitan din po ng direktiba ng ating Pangulo,” Castro said. Dumlao said victims received help and support from social workers sent by the government.

Castro also said DepEd is investigating the stabbing incident in Las Piñas City. DepEd has already talked to a representative of the Schools Divisions Office (SDO) and the principal of the school where students have been involved in the violent incident.

Data from DepEd earlier showed that more than 79,000 cases of bullying, both physical and online, were recorded from 2019 to 2022.

The President also appealed to Filipinos to remain peaceful and ensure the safety of their families as the nation observes the Lenten season.

“Ngayong darating na Mahal na Araw, piliin natin ang kapayapaan. Piliin natin ang kaligtasan para sa ating mga sarili, at lalo na sa ating mga pamilya,” President Marcos said in a social media posting. “Ang Bagong Pilipino ay naninindigan para sa kaniyang bayan.

Citing recent road rage incidents, the President called on the public to maintain a calm and controlled attitude and follow traffic rules.

He also advised Filipinos not to imitate pranksters and vloggers who disrespect others just to get more views on social media. “Likas na mababait ang mga Pilipino, magalang, mapagkumbaba, napaka haba ng pasensya. Kaya’t nakakalungkot na makitang naaabuso ang ganito nating katangian,” the President said.
