Hero’s welcome for Carlos Yulo in Manila
THE city of Manila is preparing for a hero’s welcome for Carlos Yulo, a Manileño from Leveriza, Malate, for claiming the gold medal in the Paris Olympics.
“All of Manila, the entire Philippines, and Filipinos all over the world rejoice at Carlos Edriel Yulo’s spectacular gold medal performance at the Paris Olympics. Our hearts leaped in our chests as Caloy leaped high in the air. We stomped our feet on the floor as Caloy nailed those solid landings that felt like earthquakes. Our eyes glowed in admiration as Caloy showed sure control as he executed that perfect handstand,” Mayor Honey Lacuna said in her statement on Sunday.
Mayor Lacuna said they sang along as Caloy sang the Philippine National Anthem and their tears welled up in their eyes and flowed in streams on their faces as the Philippine Flag rose in Paris.
“As Carlos cried in tears, we cried too,” the mayor said.
The city chief executive said the grandest welcome would greet Caloy and all the Paris Olympians when they returned to the country.
“When we meet him, we will present Carlos Yulo cash incentives, awards, and symbols of the eternal gratitude of the proud Capital City of the Philippines,” the mayor said in her closing statement.
Earlier on May 28, the City Council of Manila passed a resolution congratulating and recognizing brothers Carlos and Karl Eldrew Yulo for their outstanding achievements and gold medal victories at the artistic gymnastics Asian Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Authored by 2st District Councilor Numero “Uno” Lim and 3st District Councilor Ernesto “Jhong” Isip, Jr., Resolution no. 388 Series of 2024, stated that Karl Eldrew Yulo showcased his exceptional talent by winning the gold medal in the vault category in the Junior Division, scoring an impressive average of 14,283 which marked a significant improvement from his silver performance in the previous year.
Carlos Yulo, an Olympian and a two-time world champion, and a previous recipient of the prestigious Outstanding Manilan Award, has once again demonstrated his extraordinary capabilities by winning four gold medals in the Senior Division, including the vault and parallel bars.
