Filipino heroes extolled for bravery, love of country
AS the nation marks Araw ng Kagitingan, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero delivered a heartfelt tribute to the courage and patriotism of Filipino heroes who fought and died defending the country’s sovereignty.
In his official message, Escudero called on Filipinos to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“Sa araw na ito, tayo ay nagbabalik-tanaw at nagpupugay sa mga Pilipinong nagbuwis ng kanilang buhay upang ipaglaban ang kalayaan at karangalan ng ating bayan,” he said.
The Senate leader underscored that the freedoms and rights enjoyed today are the result of the immense sacrifices of past generations.
“Ang kalayaan ay hindi madaling nakakamtan at ito’y pinagbabayaran ng pawis, dugo, at buhay,” he emphasized, reminding the public that liberty is not given, but earned through struggle and collective courage.
Escudero’s message also carried a call to action—encouraging every Filipino to rise to the challenges of the present by embodying the same spirit of bravery and service shown by the heroes of Bataan and other pivotal moments in Philippine history.
“Hinihikayat tayo ng araw na ito na patuloy na magsikap para sa bansa at ipakita ang ating tapang at malasakit sa mga hamon ng makabagong panahon,” he stated. In doing so, he bridged the legacy of historical heroism with the responsibilities of modern citizenship.
He urged the public to show gratitude not only through remembrance but through action.
“Ngayon, ipakita natin ang pasasalamat sa mga naging bayani ng nakaraan sa pamamagitan ng pagiging bayani sa kasalukuyan,” Escudero said, highlighting that heroism can be found in daily acts—whether through service, integrity, or civic involvement.
“From doing small acts of kindness to working toward greater goals for the nation, let us stand together in making our country something we can always be proud of,” he added.
Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor, commemorates the heroism of Filipino and American soldiers who fought side by side during World War II, particularly those who endured the Bataan Death March.
