FAR Eastern University gifted returning women’s coach Tina Salak a victory, thumping Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-16, 25-18, 28-26, in the V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena Wednesday night.

“Grateful kami kasi siyempre dalawang talo na kami kailangan lahat ng remaining games namin nilu-look forward na namin na dapat panalo kami kaya every game talaga chinicherish namin siya kasi yun yung way namin para makapasok sa final four o di kaya finals,” said Lady Tamaraws captain Tin Ubaldo, who tossed 14 excellent sets while also getting nine points including four blocks.

FEU faced challenges in the third set but still found a way to squeeze through, leveling its record at 2-2 for joint second with University of the Philippines.

Salak sparked the Lady Tamaraws’ return into contention two years ago but had to step down to a consultant role last year due to personal reasons.

Jean Asis topscored for FEU with 15 points, including three blocks, and an ace, while Chenie Tagaod added 10 points, 11 digs, and 11 receptions.

The Lady Pirates kept the match close in the third set before Ubaldo and Tagaod stepped up down the stretch to seal the Lady Tamaraws’ win in one hour and 23 minutes.

FEU looks to build on this triumph when it faces University of the East on August 25 at the same Manila arena.

LPU fell to its third consecutive defeat.
