FAR Eastern University libero Max Juangco has opted to turn pro to play for Akari for the new Premier Volleyball League season set to open on Feb. 20.

Juangco will be a much-needed addition for the Chargers as their main libero Justine Jazareno recently took a leave of absence.

“Her MAXimum effort on the defensive end will elevate the Akari Chargers to another level this season. Welcome to Chargers ground, Max!,” the club posted on its social media accounts yesterday.

Juangco, who will take turns with veteran Bang Pineda in the libero position, has already with the team in the Akari Cup pocket tournament last week.

The Chargers last week announced that Jazareno has requested a leave of absence due to personal reasons.

“Requesting her decision and privacy, Akari management is granting Ms. Jazareno’s request and will continue to support her every day and in every way in the next few months. We look forward to welcoming her back soon,” the club said.

Juangco played for the Lady Tamaraws for two UAAP seasons and suited up for a couple of preseason tournaments late last year before she opted to forego her eligibility.

Meanwhile, Akari defeated Nxled, 25-19, 25-15, 26-24, in an all-PVL duel to become the No. 1 team in the Akari Cup eliminations Sunday at the AdU Gym.

Adamson bested fellow UAAP squad Ateneo 25-12, 25-22, 25-23, to finish second place in the prelims.

The Chargers, who are undefeated in five matches, will play the fourth-ranked Blue Eagles (2-3) in today’s semifinals, while the Falcons (4-1) take on the No. 3 Chameleons (3-2) in the other pairing.

The final and third place match is set tomorrow.

In the other match, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta turned back NCAA rival Arellano University, 19-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-17, to end its campaign on a high note.
