AS the filing of Certificate of Candidacy nears, Senate President Francis Chiz Escudero provided his perspective on the upcoming 2025 elections.

Escudero acknowledged the growing excitement surrounding the elections but downplayed the notion of heightened political tension, saying: “Bakit naman kailangang uminit? Next year pa.”

He emphasized that while electoral preparations are underway, it is important to focus on the democratic process itself rather than potential conflict.

Escudero also lauded the composition of the administration’s senatorial candidates, describing them as experienced and well-qualified.

“Puro batikan at walang tulak-kabigin at lahat may karanasan,” Escudero said, recognizing that most of the candidates are seasoned public servants, many of whom he has worked with in the past.

But at the same time, despite their credentials, Escudero stressed that the true decision lies in the hands of the voters.

Escudero explained that the dynamics in politics now are typical in non-presidential election years.

He noted that clear divisions between opposition and administration are more critical during presidential elections.

He cited the 2007 midterm elections during former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s term, where the country was sharply divided on impeachment issues.
