Energy conservation

ENERGY consumption in the Philippines usually increases in summer.

This is understandable since people and offices use airconditioners and electric fans almost 24 hours a day during the hot months.

That’s why we commend President Marcos for issuing an order aimed at reducing energy consumption in state offices.

Through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, President Marcos issued Administrative Order (AO) No. 15 last January 16.

He ordered national government agencies (NGAs) and local government units (LGUs) to accelerate the implementation of GEMP.

GEMP is the Government Energy Management Program,” which is designed to ensure efficient and judicious utilization of energy.

Under AO No. 15, all government agencies, including LGUs, are encouraged to undertake efforts to reduce consumption of electricity.

Included in the order are all government-owned and/or-controlled corporations.

President Marcos also directed all government agencies and instrumentalities to implement relevant IAEECC resolutions.

Of course, IEECC is the Inter-Agency Energy and Efficiency Conservation Committee, which is chaired by the Department of Energy.

Likewise, national government agencies and local government units would do well to invest in energy efficiency and conservation.
