SENATORIAL candidate JV Ejercito joined other groups in opposing the possible return of face shield use.

In a statement, Ejercito said mandatory use of face shield is unnecessary as there is no scientific proof or evidence that it can protect somebody against COVID-19.

Ejercito made the call following the statement of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases that the return of face shield is being studied.

In the previous days, another surge of COVID-19 cases were recorded and that Metro Manila is again deemed as “high risk” with the increase in positivity rate.

“Hindi natin kailangan ibalik ang face shield. There is no scientific evidence to support it. Sa ospital lang po dapat gawing mandatory ang paggamit nito,” Ejercito said.

“The Omicron variant seems to be milder than other variants, ayon sa research sa UK at South Africa,” the former Senator said.

Meanwhile, Ejercito said the Department of Health, Local Government Units and IATF must intensify their campaigns on the proper use of face mask.

“Imbes na ibalik natin ang face shield, mas maganda na i-remind natin ang mga tao paano suotin nang tama ang face mask. May mga nakikita tayo na nakalagay lang sa baba ang mask. Kailangan covered po ang ating bibig at ilong,” he said.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has placed on lockdown the entire Batasan Complex amid the spike of COVID-19 cases and the threat of Omicron variant.

House Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza, in a viber message to House reporters, said the precaution was intended to prevent the spread of omicron and to ensure the safety of the House members. Sessions will resume on January 17.

“The HOR is on lockdown to prevent the spread of omicron. We will resume operations next week for the safety of everyone,” Mendoza said.
