SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija — The local municipal government headed by Mayor Arvin C. Salonga is ramping up its daily vaccination rate targeting to inoculate at least 1,700 individuals on a daily basis.

Local officials are speeding up the vaccination drive as more people are now lining up to get vaxed with the arrival of more vaccines, said Salonga.

“Dagsa po ang pila ng tao simula pa noong isang linggo dito sa open gymnasium ng munisipyo upang magbakuna, kaya kami naman ay naglagay ng target na makapagpabakuna ng 1,700 katao kada araw,” the mayor said.

The intensified vaccination drive by the local government unit is in compliance with the directive of the Department of Health and Interior and Local Government under Sec. Eduardo M. Aňo to intensify vaccination efforts of all local government units across the country to be able to reach the 70 percent-target before the year ends.

Salonga said the LGU is now also preparing for the start of the vaccination of booster shots or third dose by next year.

The mayor also proposed that anti-body or serology testing be undertaken for all those fully-vaccinated to be able to determine if they were able to acquire the antibodies against the virus.

“Back to square one tayo, kapag zero o negative ang maging resulta ng anti-body testing sapagkat balewala ang ginawa na pagbabakuna sa tao. Uulitin ang proseso ng bakuna mula first dose hanggang second dose,” stressed Salonga.

The mayor even showed to this reporter the result of his SARS-COV2-neutralizing anti-body test and that of his eldest son Arvin Carl to emphasize his point. It showed him getting a 3.0 mark while his son, 1.2972. Both of them recently contracted the virus.

Last week, the municipal health office headed by Dr. Robert Marcelo started the rollout for the second dose for AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccine while those belonging in Categories 1 to 5 and the general population were inoculated for their first dose.

Earlier, National Task Force against COVID-19 chief implementer Sec. Carlito Galvez urged all LGUs to ramp up their vaccination drives and go house-to-house to give the jabs if needed amid the arrival of more vaccines in the country.
