IN anticipation of the surge in air travel during the upcoming Holy Week holiday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) recently underwent an inspection of the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) Wednesday, April 5, 2023, led by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista and Director General Manuel Antonio Tamayo.

This inspection is in line with the DOTr and CAAP’s “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2023” initiative, which aims to ensure that all transportation facilities in the Philippines are prepared for the increase in passenger traffic during the Holy Week holiday.

During the inspection, the team assessed the readiness of the Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) facilities to handle the expected increase in air traffic, ensuring that all equipment and personnel are operating at “peak efficiency” to guarantee safe and efficient air travel for passengers.

Tamayo emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest standards in aviation safety, especially during peak travel seasons such as Holy Week. “We take the responsibility of ensuring safe and efficient air travel very seriously,” he said.

“That’s why we’re taking proactive steps to ensure that our CNS/ATM facilities are prepared, that our contingencies are ready for all situations, and that communication lines remain open among critical facilities and personnel during this busy time,” he added.

The inspection was conducted in accordance with international aviation standards and best practices, and the CAAP will continue to closely monitor its operations throughout the Holy Week travel period.
