THE government is pleased to have the support of international agencies in sharing the vision and helping in the efforts to rehabilitate persons who use drugs (PWUDs) and combating illegal drugs in the communities.

Yesterday, the DILG and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)–RenewHealth sealed an agreement to join hands in boosting the community-based drug rehabilitation and anti-illegal drugs program under the Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA) program.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was inked by DILG Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. and representatives of USAID at the Novotel Hotel in Cubao, Quezon City.

“As we continue to roll out the BIDA program in various sectors nationwide, I am very pleased to have the support of the international agencies such as the USAID,” Abalos said.

Also yesterday, USAID-RenewHealth turned over different types of common but differentiated responsibilities (CBDR) materials and learning modules for the Philippine government’s BIDA program to be distributed in localities.

According to Abalos, this collaboration is aimed at pursuing the implementation of various drug-demand activities such as the need to access evidence-based and culturally appropriated tools that support CBDR and to expand its best practices as well as its substance use prevention and re-integration program.

Under the MOU, USAID will also donate tools and materials about social behavior change communication (SBCC), capacity building and information management platforms for the CBDR and advocacy events for its best practice along with evidence-based policies about CBDR.
