IMUS CITY, Cavite – The Department of Education (DepEd) and the local government units of Cavite yesterday formally started the inoculation of public school students dubbed “Bakuna Eskwela.”

The inoculation campaign was launched in collaboration with the 23 local government units of the province, which aims to ensure that every vaccine given is safe for the children in the province.

In Imus, the City Health Office headed by Dr. Ferdinand Mina yesterday started vaccinating students of the Imus Pilot Elementary School in Bgy Poblacion.

According to Dr. Mina, up to 6,500 public school students in the city will be inoculated against measles, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria.

He said his staff members will go to every school in the city for the free vaccine offered by the DOH.

In Bacoor City, under the leadership of Mayor Strike B. Revilla and Office of the City Health Services (OCHS) headed by Dra. Ivy Marie Yrastorza, launched the “Bakuna Eskwela” at Longos Elementary School.

“The goal of the program is to ensure safe and effective vaccines for the students of Longos Elementary School, as a step in strengthening the health of children in Bacoor,’ Dr. Yrastorza said.

Vaccination of students also started in Dasmarinas City, Cavite City, and General Trias City.

Thousands of children in public schools are expected to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) as the Department of Health (DOH) and the DepEd formally launched their joint school-based immunization drive recently.

The DOH aims to vaccinate at least five million children in public schools through the two-month “Bakuna Eskwela” campaign.

“Bakuna Eskwela” is a vaccination drive designed to protect school-aged children against measles, rubella, tetanus, diphtheria (MR, Td), and human papillomavirus (HPV).

The school-based immunization emphasizes the importance of vaccinating children.

“Bakuna Eskwela” focuses on immunizing public school students in Grades 1 to with MR and Td vaccines, while female Grade 4 students in selected public schools will be given with HPV vaccine that will provide them protection against cervical cancer.
