CORDOVA Dutchess Dagami Warriors made it nine wins in a row to remain as the only unbeaten team in the 2021 PCAP-GM Wesley So Cup chess championships over the weekend.

Cordova, bannered by GM Nitzan Steinberg and Merben Roque, demolished Mindoro Tamaraws, 20-1, and Iriga City Oragons, 16-5, to tighten their hold on the lead in the Southern Division.

Steinberg, the 23-year-old campaigner from Haifa, Israel who earned his GM title in 2017, swept Joselito Asi of Mindoro and Andrew Bryant of Iriga, while Roque bested Emmanuel Asi and Nelman Lagutin to lead the the Dagami Warriors’ charge.

IM Bernadette Galas, Brylle Arellano and Allan Pason also continued their winning ways for Cordova of PCAP Vice Chairman Ariel Potot and team manager Francis Rivera.

“The players have shown that they can really deliver because of their efforts and commitment to training with the help of Dione Miñoza and Yves Christian Fiel,” said Potot in a message to People’s Tonight.

Sharing the limelight were San Juan Predators and Camarines Soaring Eagles, who also completed back-to-back victories in their respective divisions.

San Juan outsteadied Pasig Pirates, 13.5-7.5, and Manila Indios Bravos, 12-9, to keep the solo lead with 8-1 win-loss record in the Northern Division, while Camarines clobbered Iriga City Oragons, 16-5, and Iloio Kisela Knights, 13-8, to stay in the hunt with 8-1 slate in the Southern Division.

WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda swept WIM Sherily Cua, IM Ricky de Guzman blanked NM Rudy Ibanez and Narquingel Reyes shocked GM Darwin Laylo in San Juan’s dominant win over Pasig.

Fronda, de Guzman and Narciso Gumila also delivered the points for San Juan against Manila, beating Mira Mirano, Cris Ramayrat and Ryan Dungca in rapid.

GM Oliver Barbosa of San Juan settled for draws against GM Wei Ming Goh of Pasig and IM John Marvin Miciano of Manila.

Camarines rode on victories by GM Mark Paragua, WGM Marie Sebag, Carlo Lorena and Christian Mark Daluz to complete another overpowering performance.

Paragua trounced Andrew Bryant Sebag whipped Johnelyn Buenaventura, Lorena crushed Joel Buenaventura and Daluz outplayed NM Glennen Artuz.

The games are sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), headed by Chairnan Abraham “Baham” Mitra.
