Converge, NLEX in fiery start

CONVERGE started its campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a lopsided 124-110 victory over Terrafirma Dyip at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The FiberXers rode on import Quincy Miller’s huge double-double perfomance of 38 points and 16 rebounds on top of five assists and three blocks in 38 minutes of action.

Maverick Ahanmisi came off the bench to finish with 18 points and seven assists while Justin Arana had 13 points and seven rebounds for coach Aldin Ayo.

Lester Prosper topscored for the Dyip with a double-double of 43 points and 25 rebounds.

Joshua Munzon added 14 points and Alex Cabagnot and Juami Tiongson contributed 13 points each for the Dyip of coach Johnedel Cardel.

Later, NLEX spoiled the return of former coach Yeng Guiao to Rain or Shine with a 96-90 victory.

Meanwhile, Bay Area Dragons and NorthPort Batang Pier dispute the early lead when they collide at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Both Bay Area and NorthPort won their opening-day assignments with the Dragons whipping the Blackwater Bossing, 133-87, and the Batang Pier edging Phoenix Super LPG, 92-89, last Sept. 21 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Blackwater and Phoenix collide at 6:45 p.m.
