
CIDG seizes cache of weapons in Zambo Sur rai
A SUSPECTED member of a “Potential Private Armed Group” in Mindanao found in possession of a cache of unlicensed weapons was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in a raid in his house in Zamboanga del Sur, PNP-CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas D. Torre III said on Monday.
The official said that members of the CIDG Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Field Unit, with the support of the local police and the Philippine Army, stormed the residence of the suspect in Bgy. Liba in Bayog municipality last Friday.
The raid at the house of the accused identified only as alias “Junrell” led to the seizure of an MK2 fragmentation grenade, a cal. 5.56 automatic rifle, a cal. .45 semi-automatic pistol and several loaded M-15 and cal. .45 magazines.
Torre said they have received information that the suspect and his cohorts are being used by a local politician in the province, whose name was withheld, pending further investigation.
The suspect is facing non-bailable charges for illegal possession of explosive and firearms and ammunition under Republic Act 9516 and RA 10591, said the PNP-CIDG director.
