
Chinese nat’l nabbed for compatriot’s kidnap
AUTHORITIES arrested on Wednesday evening a Chinese national for allegedly kidnapping his compatriot in Pasay City.
Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Jimili Macaraeg said Gao Lei, of legal age, and presently residing at Unit 520 Shore Residence Tower C1, Brgy. 76,was arrested by operatives of the Pasay Police Intelligence Section and Investigation and Detective Management Section at around 10 p.m. at the Shore Residence, Sunrise Drive, Mall of Asia (MOA).
Authorities also rescued the victim identified as Liu Kun, 26 of Unit 224 Shell Residence Tower C, who was reportedly abducted by Gao in front of Shell Residence, Sunrise Drive at around 9 a.m. on Monday.
The suspect demanded from Liu Kun an undetermined amount of ransom in exchange for his release, prompting the victimcto call his friend, Wang Cheng Yang, 28 of Unit 224 Shell Residence Tower C and ask for money.
Wang instead decided to report the incident to the police on Wednesday evening which prompted lawmen to conduct rescue operation.
Upon reaching Shore Residence, Wang Cheng Yang recognized Gao Lei’s vehicle which prompted authorities to block the car and ask the suspect to alight and surrender peacefully.
Operatives also found the victim inside the car with both hands tied with packaging tape.
When frisked, the suspect yielded a glass tube with residue of suspected shabu and five pieces of unknown capsules inside a small transparent plastic sachet.
Charges for kidnapping with ransom and violation of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were filed against the suspect before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.
“I would like to commend Pasay City Police for their steadfast dedication to work and immediate response leading to the arrest of the suspect in this kidnap for ransom incident. I also appreciate the trust and confidence of the reportee to the police, that was the key to the success of this operation” Macaraeg said.
