NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur — Political stalwart Luis “Chavit” Singson, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, has vowed to donate at least P15 billion of his wealth to the Filipino people.

A silent billionaire, Chavit said that since he cannot bring his wealth upstairs , “I will better donate my money to the Filipino people.”

Chavit is probably the first among the few Filipino billionaires to publicly announce such a huge donation.

“I cannot bring my wealth to Heaven once I died, so I’ll just donate it to the people), “ Singson stressed in Ilocano.

The former governor said he stressed that he did not participate in politics this coming election to avoid criticisms and suspicision that he is donating part of his wealth because of politics.

Chavit pointed out that he will not donate cash money to the people. He explained that he will establish infrastructure projects such as five-star hotels, malls, convention centers, entertainments facilities, two 40-storey super towers, iconic buildings, a world television network, among others, where the public can be given job opportunities.

Ask why he is giving a huge donation, Chavit said he has had more than enough in life and that it is time for him to share his blessings.

Earlier, Chavit admitted to this writer that he had sold his Metro Walk lot in the central business district of San Juan, just beside the Ortigas busines center, worth billions of pesos.

A known philantrophist, Chavit also owns a bank and other businesses in Las Vegas.

A highly-respected political kingpin and ‘kingmaker’ in national and local politics, Chavit was credited for the upgrading of the once sleepy town of Ilocos Sur into a 1st class province due to the R. A. 7171( tobacco excise tax) where the province and other tobacco-producing provinces in the North were given billions of pesos share from the tobacco industry.

Chavit authored said law when he was a congressman.
