Cavite logs 9 firework-related injuries

IMUS CITY, Cavite – Nine victims of fireworks injuries were recorded in the province of Cavite in the opening of the year 2023 based on the report released by the Cavite Provincial Police Office (CPPO) on Monday, January 2, 2023.

According to the report of Police Colonel Christopher Olazo, CPPO director, seven individuals were injured in Rosario town, including minors.

One of the victims suffered burns on his neck when a piece of firecracker from a “Judah’s Belt” suddenly flew to his neck and exploded. Another victim got second-degree burns to her right hand when the baby rocket or “kwitis” she was holding exploded.

Another injured his right leg when a firecracker exploded while he was walking along an alley. An alleged drunk male victim also sustained injuries when the kwitis he lit exploded.

The 5th victim got his injuries from an exploded “fountain” alleged to be defective, including two others who suffered burn injuries on different parts of their bodies.

All of them were treated and immediately discharged from the Rosario Maternity and Medical Emergency Clinic based on the report of Officer-on-Case Police Patrolman Ivan James Suliba.

In GMA (General Mariano Alvarez), a ten-year-old boy and a 19-year-old male victim were reported injured on New Year’s Day.

At about 2:30 a.m. of January 1, 2023, a telephone call was received from Carsigma Hospital informing that a minor was brought to the said hospital and based on initial investigation, the boy was playing together with his friends when falling parts of fired kwitis hit him causing wounds in his arm and head.

After treatment, the minor was immediately discharged from the hospital, while the 2nd victim was brought to Saint Mazenod Hospital, located at Bgy. Bulihan, Silang, Cavite, after getting injured from a kwitis after lighting it and was treated for the wounded left hand.
