To curtail red-tagging, spread of fake news, threats

HOUSE Deputy Minority leader and ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro on Tuesday welcomed the 14 day preventive suspension issued by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) against 2 SMNI shows.

“This suspension is long overdue but at last now something has been done to curtail the constant red-tagging, spreading of disinformation (fake news) and threatening of individulas using these two shows as well as the network,”

“Laban Kasama ang Bayan” was suspended over the unverified report on Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez’s alleged P1.8 billion travel funds, while “Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa” was suspended over death threats and profane language by guests on 2 episodes.

“Hopefully this marks the start of SMNI and the people behind it being made accountable. The authorities should look into the pattern and consistent red-tagging, terrorist-labelling for longer and more decisive measures,” Castro said.
