
Caraga cops arrest 8 gun ban violators
EIGHT gun ban violators in Caraga region were arrested in an anti-criminality operations in Surigao del Sur last Saturday, Police Regional Office 13 director Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft said yesterday.
The official said that the arrests were made shortly after local officials reported the presence of unidentified armed men roaming in Barangays Sta. Cruz and San Antonio in Marihatag municipality.
The PRO13 director said that members of the Marihatag Municipal Police Station rushed to the area and took in for questioning one alias “Wil,” 33; a certain “Joe,” 42; one “Ron,” 38; a certain “Jer,” 48; an alias “Gar,” 44; and one “Jun,” 27, as they were acting suspiciously in a store in Bgy. San Antonio.
Kraft said that while about to be frisked, suspect “Wil” threw a handgun at the nearby grassy area, which was immediately recovered by the lawmen. Suspect ‘Joe’ also was found with a knife tucked in his waistline.
The official said that a cal. .45 semi-automatic pistol with magazine containing several live ammunition and a knife were recovered during the operation.
A seventh suspect identified as alias “Ric” yielded a cal. .45 pistol with two magazines containing 11 live ammunition during an operation in Bgy. Poblacion in San Miguel municipality.
The eight identified as alias “Jack” was arrested during the service of a search warrant in Bgy. Carramota in San Miguel, which led to the confiscation of one Uzi 9mm machine pistol with magazine loaded with 14 bullets.
All arrested suspects are facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 in relation to the Gun Ban imposed by the Commission on Elections.
Doria said a total of 6,316 PRO13 personnel have been sent to secure 1,349 voting centers in the region to secure the voting public and Comelec personnel and teachers.
