THERE’S a move to boost the export sector and make this natural resources-rich Southeast Asian nation of more than 110 million people an “ideal export sector.”

It is heartening to know that President Marcos himself is spearheading the move, vowing to transform the country into a “sourcing destination” for various trade sectors.

“Since taking office, I have ensured the implementation of initiatives that will make the Philippines an ideal player in the export sector,” Marcos told business leaders.

President Marcos made the statement during the “First Tanyag: An Evening with International Trade Partners” held Saturday at the Shangri-La The Fort” in Taguig City.

The Chief Executive said the event gave him a “renewed sense of hope” that the Philippines would rise above the economic setbacks and emerge stronger than ever.

“No matter where (Filipinos) are in the world, our offerings come with a uniqueness that cannot be found elsewhere,” said President Marcos.

The gathering was attended by business leaders and diplomatic and foreign trade partners.

Like the Ilocano President, well-meaning Filipinos believe the country is a reliable sourcing destination for various trade sectors, such as home, fashion, lifestyle and food.

Admittedly, the government has been exerting its best efforts to expand domestic capabilities necessary for the development and growth of the country’s export sector.

The export sector, in the view of many quarters, will continue to play a stellar role in hastening the country’s socio-economic development.
