SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go stressed his continuing mission to help communities in distress during his Malasakit Team’s relief activity for fire victims in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.

“Kahit anumang problema ang inyong hinaharap—sunog, lindol, baha, pagputok ng bulkan o kahit anong klaseng krisis—handa kaming tumulong at magserbisyo sa inyo sa abot ng aming makakaya. Huwag kayo mawawalan ng pag-asa dahil nandito kami na palaging nagmamalasakit sa inyo,” Go reiterated.

Held at the Sitio Kanduli in Barangay Moropoint, Go’s Malasakit Team assisted four fire victims and gave them financial assistance, snacks, grocery packs, water containers, vitamins, shirts, and balls for basketball and volleyball.

At the same time, officials from the National Housing Authority assessed fire victims to determine their eligibility for the Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP), which Go continues to support as a means to help communities devastated by disasters reconstruct their homes.

“Sa pamamagitan nito, hindi lamang natin sila tinutulungan na magkaroon ulit ng maayos na masisilungan, kundi binibigyan din natin sila ng bagong pag-asa,” Go explained.

As part of efforts to help communities in distress, Go previously pushed for the enactment of Republic Act No. 11589 or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization (BFP) Act which he principally authored and co-sponsored. With this, the BFP is mandated to develop a ten-year modernization fire program that includes acquiring and upgrading fire equipment, recruiting more fire personnel, and provisioning specialized training, among others.

Meanwhile, as the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go discussed his ongoing initiatives to make government health services more accessible to Filipinos. He urged those in need of medical assistance to utilize the Malasakit Centers for their medical related bills.

Within Maguindanao del Norte, Malasakit Centers are housed in Sanitarium Hospital in Sultan Kudarat and Cotabato Regional and Medical Center in Cotabato City. Residents of Maguindanao del Sur can access the Malasakit Center at Maguindanao Provincial Hospital in Shariff Aguak.
