ON Thursday, June 30, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go took part in two historical events as he joined then outgoing President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on his last day in the Malacañang Palace and personally witnessed Ferdinand Romualdez “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. take his oath as the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines at the National Museum in Manila City.

Former president Duterte kickstarted the day by welcoming his successor into the Palace before receiving his departure honors.

After the meeting, Go proceeded to the inaugural ceremony where he witnessed Marcos being sworn into office before Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo. In his inaugural speech, President Marcos vowed to the Filipinos that he will fulfill his mandate as the country’s leader and make their dreams as his own.

“The campaigns I’ve run have taken me here, where I stand today. I listened to you and this is what I have heard: We all want peace in our land. You and your children want a good chance at a better life, in a safer, more prosperous country. All that is within reach of a hardworking, warm, and giving race. Your dreams are mine.

“You picked me to be your servant to enable changes to benefit all. I fully understand the gravity of the responsibility that you have put on my shoulders. I do not take it lightly, but I am ready for the task,” the new President added.

Meanwhile, Go committed to continue helping the new administration attain what needs to be achieved in order to guarantee the country’s progress and development.

“I look forward to working hard with my fellow legislators and helping realize the aspirations of your administration for our people. I will push for various bills that will further strengthen our adaptability and resilience as one nation, particularly in health, infrastructure, food security, economy, better governance and welfare of our people, among others,” promised Go in a statement released on the same day.

“With a solid foundation inherited from the Duterte Administration, paraphrasing your inaugural speech, we will build on the successes that are already happening in our country, continue to make the lives of our people more comfortable, and ensure that no Filipino will be left behind in our road towards fuller recovery,” he underscored.

Marcos also said in his speech that his administration will be focused on rebuilding the nation. Go then expressed his confidence that despite the challenges caused by the pandemic and other crisis situations, the Marcos Administration will be able to effectively and efficiently help the country build back better.

“Mr.
